While Nushi was pursuing a culinary degree at American River College, she met a student named Kathleen Elliott, with a similar background in Health Care and found that they had so much in common.
Kathleen and Nushi’s love of great food started in early childhood. Kathleen’s mother owned and operated a successful deli and catering business located in Auburn. Kathleen worked at the deli for many years. Nushi’s childhood was filled with wonderful dinner parties given by her mother, a successful cooking show host for the Persian Network in Los Angeles. Nushi and her mother loved to dazzle their guests with their culinary talent.
With the help of mentors, Teresa Urkofsky and Brian Knirk, of American River College’s Culinary program, Kathleen and Nushi decided to start Splendid Gourmet Catering in 2000, and have enjoyed catering for great clientele including; the California Chamber of Commerce, the California State Chancellor’s Office, Bayside Church, California ISO, Placer County Office of Education, Delta Dental, Gold River Racquet Club, St. Francis Catholic School, U.C. Davis,, St. Ignatius Church and The American River Salmon Festival. After five years Kathleen left to pursue other interests.
